A Thought

I have this thought stirring around in my head, and i'd LOVE to hear what you all think about it.

I am really wanting to do something special for all of the High School Seniors that come to SDP for their senior pics. My thought is to have a concert and/or fashion show featuring the seniors!!

The fashion show would have ONLY the seniors that had their images done at SDP, and would wear clothing from a couple of local retailers, have their hair & make-up done by our very own Bobbie Riggs (and probably some of her assistants LOL), i also want to find one or MAYBE two business' who would like to donate and get some great exposure with food, either just snacks and/or dessert! I would of course do some images, but i would also hand pick some others to do images as i would probably be the announcer, we'd have a D.J. and maybe a theme. I think i want to have part of the proceeds go towards the St. Helens Fireworks show since that helps our community as a whole.

I am also thinking of possibly having a little concert right before the fashion show. Just 3 or 4 songs, to lighten the mood, get people relaxed and mingling type thing. I'm not sure of the band yet this whole thing is just in the thought process. I'm thinking tickets would only be like around $10 per person or something...i would just depend on many factors on how much the tickets would be.

But does this sound like something you would be interested in going to? That's the BIGGEST thing i need to know. Please vote and if you have any thoughts or suggestions or would like to be a sponsor let me know that as well!! I believe this will have a GREAT turn out if it's done properly :)

Senior Portraits

Please read this for information about Senior Portraits.

We do CREATIVE portraits, not your typical "mom & pop" images. We start with light make-up & natural hair and progress to dark creative make-up & hair. A licensed Beautician will be at your session the whole time, doing your hair & make-up (with the Elite session).

Before hand we will go over creative ideas as to what you're wanting to accomplish. You will have up to THREE hours of shooting time (with the Elite session) both in studio and outdoors (depending on the weather).

We also are sure to snap a couple "regular" images for grandparents, but after they see the creative ones they may just want one of those anyways. You can expect to feel like a SUPER MODEL during your session...except we'll give you junk food!

You are MORE than welcome to have a friend involved in a couple shots, if she wants to be in a creative image there may be a fee to cover make-up costs and whatnot. You also will have the option to have color in your hair, one color or more up to you, you can highlight your hair with it, peek a boo your hair, two tone etc. This will be done before your session and you will discuss details with the Beautician along with the estimate on how much additional it will be (she does discount it tho).

We suggest your Senior session be held sometime between April & August BEFORE your senior year. We offer a discount on your session fee the earlier you get booked.

If your session is held in April OR May the Elite session will only be $100 AND you'll receive a 15% discount on your order total. (this cannot be combined with any other discounts or referral card promos)

If your session is held in June OR July the Elite session will only be $150 AND you'll receive a 5% discount on your order total. (this cannot be combine with any other discounts or referral card promos)

If your session is held in August and there after regular prices apply.

ALL of my clients are apart of my referral program and are earning money. Seniors ALSO get other prizes for referrals not just the money!

Photoshoot

Well our Creative Senior Photoshoot was such a SUCCESS!!! Bobbie Riggs came in and did all of the hair & make-up, she also brought in a couple of assistance to help her out.Curveacous who is right next to me in St. Helens so graciously allowed us to borrow some AWESOME Iron First shoes as well. We had three beautiful models to work with, Molly whose a past client and Senior at St. Helens High, Taylor a beautiful Freshman at St. Helens, and Lily whose an awesome 8th grader at the Jr. High! As you can see below tho we transferred these girls to look like Seniors that's for sure! We started with lighter make-up and more natural hair and progressed to crazy and wild!! It was soooo much fun, I'm actually thinking of possibly trying to put together some sort of Fashion Show or something, along these lines I'm not sure.

I do know that these girls had SO much fun, and they felt like super models. This is how I want all my Seniors to feel during their session. This is also a PERFECT session for your daughter who might be in Jr. High or who has accomplished something great in their life, or for their birthday! Your daughter & one or two friends come in and have their OWN photoshoot and she'll receive an 8x8 album of all the images so she can treasure it forever.

I cannot believe Christmas is right around the corner. I feel so unprepared lol

I do want to let you all know that to get your holiday portraits by Christmas your session does need to be held in November. I will have my Holiday stuff out until the end of December for your enjoyment though!

Happy Halloween

Well today is Halloween. It truly is hard to believe that the holidays are right around the corner. I will enjoy in the festivities with my girls tonight. My oldest is will be a witch and my youngest a lady bug...wow pretty must completely opposite there lol my and dameron are unsure if we'll dress up, might be kind of fun ;0)

I do want to send out a little caution that if you're wanting images back by Christmas your sessions need to be held in November. tomorrow (nov 1st) me and my family will be decorating the studio for Christmas, and we will have a Christmas scene up! I'm very excited.

MOLLY

Here's a spin on my "Creative Senior" type image. This is Molly which we did a regular senior session so this was a spur of the moment type thing. I'd love to hear your thoughts :)

Specializing

After some hard thought i have decided that I am going to specalize in two major catagories. What this means is that most of my specials, marketing, & products will aim towards these two groups. Of course I will still take on other catagories here and there. I am going to specialize in babies & creative senior portraits.

Babies is meaning 12 months and younger, most clients will be on my baby plan.

Creative Senior portraits. This is something i'm super excited about. It won't be for all seniors as everyone has different tastes but i want to be set apart from other photographers. I do not want the "typical" senior portraits, these images will consist of dramatic make-up and hair, eery poses, fun poses, high fashion, merging images etc. I am going to look for ONE senior who will experiment with me. The Senior portraits will look very dramatic, and creative. I'm not wanting to do the typical smile, posed, "regular" senior portraits. I can't wait to test this out and have some images to show. One image that is aimed towards what i'm wanting to do is this:

Seniors

Seems as though i am getting contacted by quite a few Seniors in the past couple weeks. I want to make sure all seniors are aware that they must have their senior picture submitted to the year book in December!!!! that is just around the corner, you don't have until spring to wait. So get booked ASAP!!! Plus the earlier you get your session done the earlier you get to start doing senior rep stuff, earning money, and gift cards!!!!!

I keep getting asked about christmas cards so i've purchased some templates and made some samples. I think they are toooo cute :)

Of course they are customizable, these are just samples of the templates, they are also a 5x7 size!!! :) What do you think?

Christmas Portraits

DATE CHANGE: I'm thinking of doing this now in December over the weekend of the 12th & 13th! However i need to see an interest in this or i cannot schedule it, please let me know if you'd like to participate in this???


So i've decided to to a Christmas Mini Session! I'm going to find a Santa and offer picture packages with santa. Not your traditional sit on Santa's lap type images. I want more creative possibly like Santa handing a "gift" to your child, kids eating Milk and cookies at a little table or candy canes, there will be some with the kiddos sitting on Santa's lap as well, santa holding little babies, i'll have a fake Christmas Tree with fake present etc. The weekend event will be November 21st & 22nd. These will be mini sessions 10-20 minutes with only one or two poses taken. You can choose one of two options (you can see these below). I'm also wanting to have this somewhat organized so I am requesting that you pick the collection you're wanting pay up front and schedule the time you'd like to have your session. If you'd like to purchase add ons those options will be presented during your appointment. I will NOT be offering this types of mini sessions again for a long time, this is also aimed towards children, not any family sessions. The set up won't be big enough for that.

October Special session

Ok as you might of read in a previous blog Fall is my FAVORITE season. I'm waning to do some sort of special for one day mini shoots only. I'm thinking with Hay, pumpkins, corn stalks if i can get some and any other fall items i can come up with. This would be a ONE DAY only type thing since it would make such a huge mess LOL possibly if i get a big response i'll make it a weekend thing. So below is the two options with the above set up, please vote to the right and tell me if it's something you'd be interested in, i'm looking at the weekend of Octber 24th.

Seniors

So yesterday I got the chance to do a senior session with a beautiful girl named Rachel. We had tons of fun i swear these session always seem to fly by and before i know it i've used an entire memory card haha Seniors are so fun, so much personality, and so daring, needless to say they even take direction pretty good :)

A lot of seniors are under the impression they have their whole seior year to do senior portraits, when in reality to make the year book and to have an image in there you need to have your session done by December. Typically seniors do their sessions the summer before their senior year (so all you juniors keep that in mind) in anycase if you haven't gotten your senior pics done yet i still have openings, don't stress, just get your appointment made! :0)

Thanks to all the seniors i've worked with so far this year, it's been super fun, you all are very unique and special and i believe you will go far in life :0)

The beginnings of Fall

So today is October 1st. This is my most favorite season so i'm super excited. i just love all of the wonderful colors that surround us in beautiful Oregon. I love watching the leaves turn from green to orange to red, makes me all warm and toasty inside :) The crisp air outside gives me the thoughts of sitting by the fire sipping a hot cup of chocolatey cocoa. All in all this time of year is a joyess time, a time families come together and celebrate and EAT wonderful food. This time of year is also the time both of my daughters were born. My oldest turns 6 on October 6th and my youngest turns 4 on December 8th. I'm very excited for this season, playing games, snuggling with my family, soups, turkey, etc.

I also know this time of year isn't the easiest for a lot of people. I'm thinking of having a toy drive or something. Possibly for the toys for tots since that's a Marine Corps thing and my husband just got out of the Marines. However sometimes it seems as though people WANT to help and say things sound like a great idea, yet their actions say something totally different. I would like to have a toy drive but i do not want to put in the effort to do something and have noone participate. Please let me know on the poll if you would donate a new unwrapped toy.

Oh and i almost forgot another thing that i just LOVE about this season..... the COLORS haha if you would like a session outdoors in the beautiful colors let me know ;)

WOWZERS!!!

so yesterday i received my 30x30 image!!! I purchased it for a studio print, so people can see the difference. And BOY OH BOY what a difference a large wall print makes. WOWZERS this image is awesome!!!

I still haven't made up my mind about the downtown storefront. If I do decide to do that i'll need to purchase several more large prints so people can see what different sizes are.

I just wanted to say WOW i never realized (even being the photographer) what a really large wall print does. It's night and day. I can't wait to get rid of my smaller images on the walls in my home and upgrade. Now if only my kiddos would let me get good images of them :)

Well the nice weather is certainly trying to make it's appeareance :) It makes me so super excited to see the sun shining!!! outdoor sessions are so fun & relaxed!! Well i'm super excited last night i finished editing Chloe's senior images. She is so beautiful and was super fun to work with. she's also very excited to help me kick off taking senior images which is super helpful!!

Now a little info about my senior packages

My senior sessions (all of them) INCLUDE a hair and make-up artist, A licensed beautician from The Buzz here in St Helens. Here are your sitting options.

THE BASIC
in studio only for 30 minutes
2-3 outfits $85

THE ESSENTIAL
In Studio and one outdoor location for 1 hour (30 in studio 30 outdoor...weather permitting)
3-4 outfits $110

THE ELITE
In studio and one outdoor location and include a pet or friend 1.5 hours
4-5 outfits $130

ART
In studio and 2 outdoor locations (park, railroad tracks, river etc) for 2 hours
5-6 outfits $150

IMAGINE
In studio and 3 outdoor locations for 3 hours
6-7 outfits $200

Of course the longer time we have the more vartiety of images you'll get. Chloe did a 3 hour session and BOY OH BOY did we have a big vartiety. Her proof book has i believe 33 images in it.

I require a $100 deposit when you decide you want me to do your senior images + your session fee (from above) the $100 will go directly towards your print purchase. The day you pick up your proof book (about 14 days after your session) I require another $100 to be paid. So you will have "saved up" $200 toward your package purchase.

I have "5 day" pricing "15 day" pricing and "standard" pricing, basically the earlier you order the bigger discount you'll get. I will also offer payment plans for those who need it.

SO yesterday i got my external speed light WOOT WOOT how exciting hehe now i have MUCH reading and studying to do on it for the best results lol but i'm sooo stoked :) Perfect timing since out door sessions will start to be booking! Which leads me to my next thing, i WILL travel to the beach (astoria) for only an dadditional $30. How cool is that?!?!?!? Just think how awesome some family beach images would be? or maternity? Well I'm going to be sending out my Baby Plan again with in the next week. I HIGHLY urge you to request the information. Thank you for the wonderful pictures they turned out so great! About 2 months before I found you I had gone to a picture place in the mall and was not impressed at all. We were pushed in and out in 15 minutes and my kid was crying the whole time. So they turned out horrible. With you though you let me feed him and gave me time to make Garrett a "happy" baby again. Which we all know isn't easy. Everyone that sees the photos you took just falls in love with them. I am so glad I signed up for the baby plan it is well worth it and can't wait for our next session. I have to say that HONESTLY that was probably the best experience I have ever had with getting pictures taken. You are very gifted and amazing at what you do..

Storefront

Man the past couple weeks having a storefront has REALLY been on my mind. I'm feeling like my photography props and equipment is outgrowing my area at home, and how safe is it really to bring people into my home where my children are? I mean yea me & hubbs are here, but what if one day i have a client who freaks out for some reason (we all know there's people out there who you can never please) and vandalizes my home or makes a threat? I really wish i could average 8+ sessions a month, but it's much harder when i'm working monday-friday all day long haha. I suppose i need to just push as best as i can, because a tiny part of me is starting to feel my dream slip away because "reality" is playing such a huge part and taking up so much time. SO keep me in your prayers for guidence :)

so it's march

WOW i can't believe it's march already. And i can't believe it was snowing yesterday either lol well Spring is quickly approaching so is Easter. My Easter special is only on March 21st & 22nd. It's only $65 and you receive a hour session AND $150 print credit...doesn't get much better than that!!! I have limited times available so email me asap to get yours booked.

I have several wedding dates being booked as well for this summer. I suggest getting that done asap as well. Email me and ask about what kind of free stuff is included in my wedding price!! I bet it's more than others are offering.

here's a couple favorites from my last maternity session. This couple was soo much fun and i think we had a great time!!! they will be fabulous parents :) maternity sessions are so fun and i look forward to being able to capture their little babies images as well :)

quick update

Well here's a real quick update on the life of April Haldy. I started Bank of America last week and have been playing the balancing act with "day job", photography, family, etc. However i've been doing great if i do say so myself :) I have many other changes that have been going on in my personal life as well that have been going SUPER! it's like me and hubby made new years resolutions in...February lol but hey better late than never right? I have posted my easter gift on the internet and am giving all my "net fans" first dibs on openings. however starting next week i will be handing out fliers and mailing out fliers like a mad woman so i suggest booking ASAP!! Plus its a FABULOUS deal if i do say so :) it truly is a GIFT!!! Anywho i'm very tired and Hero's is about to be on so i must go. Well i have some sad news. I will now only be able to take one session a week and only on the weekends now. I was forced to get a "day job" because photography just hasn't taken off as we had hoped. I'm very sad that i won't be more available for my clients and not as flexible. But this is something that had to be done. As soon as i can start getting at least 8-10 sessions per month i will then feel that i can do photography only and hopefully get a studio as well. So if you'd like to book a session i suggest doing it in advance as i'll book quickly since i can only do one a week now. So sorry for the inconvenience!

Kylee

Yesterday I had a session with a little girl named Kylee. She's almost a year and a half and very active tehe. She actually was brought to me by my talent agent as she needed some good images done for her portfolio. Which is another avenue I will be pursuing, doing model portfolios and whatnot. Anywho i just had to post my favorite image from her session...I think it is soooo darn cute!!! :)

My Photoshoot

Well since i've been signed with Merrick talent i've had to do a couple photoshoots. these last ones turned out REALLY kewl so i just wanted to share!!! It's harder than you think having to get the camera ready, set up lighting, pose, and be cute all at the same time lol and sometimes certain poses just don't work with some people haha And the "hair" shot was very difficult to accomplish, however i believe we nailed it and i absolutly love it!!!!! anywho here are a couple from my little self photoshoot :)

new reflector YAY

So today was such a beautiful day, gosh it feels like the last 2 days have been such a tease. Since early December i swear we've only had like maybe 3 days that have been above 40 degrees. Yesterday it was 58 and today was probably 60. So I decided it was the perfect opportunity to grab my new reflectors and get acquainted with them :) it started off as me shooting, and hubby using the reflector while my oldest daughter "posed" which then turned into me posing and my husband shooting AND using the reflector lol it actually helped him be able to learn to use the reflector better. He'll be my assistant with that so he needs to know what he's doing :p anyways here's a couple images of ME the one whose usually always BEHIND the camera. rarely do photographers have images taken of them....let alone post them lol so here you are!!!!
